Eel Pie
03:51
|
|||
Circling as in ellipses
Pissed and reeking of the crime
Cephaeline, entwined in ditches
Blessed to row above the rime
We’d not the breath to ever stop for death
And so he kindly stopped for me
Was not my soul he hoped to drag on home
Just a portion of my lay
---
Trade winds, blue fins, gas lamp streets
Salt slab, back stab, land grab
Soiled my sheets
New moon, dawn blooms, brewed shrooms
Multiplied
Earth shakes, day breaks, Neptune wakes
Bleary eyed
---
Squall blows in, nail down the hatches
Children washed up by the tide
Paper thin and now redacted
Latitudes we sought to find
Gin crazed in doorways
Purses fat now with plums
Mildewed, fish food
Grip the pulpit, speed us on
Speed us on.

Governors Ball
04:14
|
|||
An envelope announced the invitation
So time to bind a ribbon in your hair
The carriage would arrive upon a winding road
And anyone who’s anybody would be there
-
So lashed up tight, string the bodice front to back
And softly mouth prayers for it all
A fateful night, your breeding will be brought to bear
Come and fit your slippers for the Governor’s ball
-
The voices cried aloud out of a perfumed shroud
A hand appears unbidden on your shawl
Irises dilate beneath an arching brow
A moustache tilts to pin you to the wall
A vessel for projection, a plaything for a wretch
A sample in a specimen jar
A masterful oration and a furious dash
Announces the arrival of the governor’s car
-
Oh and his charms they were legion
An entourage it coasted on his grace
His presence at the debut of the season
Was almost worth the penance of his pox-riddled face
-
And the room fell silent for a spell
As his girth played tricks with gravity
A leer announced he’d like to get to know me well
As he fixed both eyes upon me
Fat backside and a polio stride
A cousin’s coupling offspring you’d agree
Peptides and bromides with which I was plied
As he gently slung me down on the setee’
And his whispers were as coarse as his fingers
Stumbling over lines of stolen perjury
I think I heard a crack as his body went slack
As I spindled him within my rush to leave
-
So lashed up tight, string the bodice front to back
And softy mouth prayers for it all
A shameful night, your breeding will be brought to bear
So come unclip your garter at the governor’s ball.
